More Info About Pregnancy Life Casting & Belly Bowl Sculptures

The Belly Bowl, a profound visual statement of the transformation a woman experiences when she becomes a creator of life. The nine months leading to the birth of a new and unique person is exciting, amazing and both fleeting and seemingly endless at the same time. To have the beautiful form of an expecting mother's belly or torso made into a sculpture is an excellent way to preserve this magical phase of life.

Name: Olivia - Glaze: Copper

To commission a ceramic Belly Bowl, you must first complete a pregnancy belly cast using a plaster life casting kit available on the Ordering Info page. Once you finish your casting, you can use the order form enclosed in the life casting kit to choose your glaze and display preferences. Just return the belly casting and order form, and you will have your very own Belly Bowl in 3-4 weeks. Your custom life casting sculpture will be carefully packaged and sent via Priority Mail, along with your original life casting.

Your Belly Bowl can be displayed on a circular wrought iron base to present the sculpture as a bowl, or can hang on the wall to show the belly is all its glory. Bowl holders and hangers can be acquired on the Ordering Info page also.

Name: Michael - Glaze: Tutti Frutti

Many Moms choose to display their finished pregnancy life casting as a piece of art unto itself. A fantastic way to put the final touches on your plaster casting is to paint artist's gesso (basically a primer, pronounced jess-O) over the entire surface to protect and seal your work. As an additional benefit, the dried gesso resembles the texture of skin, for added realism. The pregnancy life casting "Finishing Kit" is also available on the Ordering Info page, and includes sandpaper, white gesso, 2" brush, mounting hardware, adhesive and ribbon for hanging your work. You may choose to further embellish your pregnancy life casting with acrylic paint, decoupage, jewels, feathers, footprints of your newborn, autographs from friends and family...you name it.

Send me a picture of your finished piece, and I'll add it to our online gallery!

Please note as you view the pieces that the raku firing method is used to create pieces of decorative ceramic art which are always one-of-a-kind originals. The photos must be viewed as suggestive of the type and color of the work available. Exact replication of a raku piece is never possible, but I strives to match your order as closely as possible. Please refer to my distributors raku glaze chips for color options. Additionally, I will work to find any color you desire, just send me an e-mail. di@dianalangell.com
